The Centers of Innovation program is charged with providing the resources and services needed to foster growth in the areas of aerospace, agriculture, life sciences, logistics, manufacturing and information technology; areas of strategic focus as designated by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2003. The Innovation Program works directly with existing businesses and entrepreneurs to foster growth within each sector.
More than a think tank, each center provides tangible services such as access to university level research and development, industry specific business incubator space, training, business management services and matching research grants for qualified companies. Additional keynote services include the facilitation of significant networking opportunities and connecting clients to industry thought leaders as well as potential investors.
While many of the core services are similar in concept throughout the entire program, each center brings specialty services - including industry specific contacts and knowledge to the table. For example, the manufacturing center provides customized training with the latest in robotics equipment; the agriculture center offers on-site access to state and national research labs; logistics' expertise is coupled with a working relationship with the Georgia Ports Authority and the life sciences center is located in heart of the Medical College of Georgia.
The Centers of Innovation program is strengthened by its affiliation with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the OneGeorgia Authority and the entire University System of Georgia, including research universities and technical colleges.
